Garage Door Security: Locks and Defenders Explained
Garages often hold bikes, tools and garden equipment, and in some homes the garage gives access to the house itself. Adding a dedicated garage lock is a straightforward upgrade.
Garage Defenders
A Garage Defender is a solid steel unit that locks to a base plate fitted in front of the garage door. When it is in place, the door cannot tilt open. It is also a very visible deterrent.
- The PJB Garage Defender Master meets the Sold Secure Bronze standard and is supplied with a shackleless solid steel padlock.
- The standard PJB Garage Defender is Sold Secure tested and available in red or white.
- Both are available in bolt-down versions for concrete, or with a tarmac adaptor.
Door-mounted locks
If you would prefer a lock fitted to the door itself:
- The Bulldog GD400 Garage Door Lock fits inside or outside most metal, glass fibre, plastic or wooden garage doors.
- The Bulldog GD20 is a surface-mounted garage door lock.
- The PJB Secure A Door up-and-over lock carries Sold Secure Silver protection and suits commercial and residential doors.
- PJB garage locking bolts are compatible with wood or metal, sectional and up-and-over doors.
Roller shutter doors
The Bulldog GR500 Roller Shutter Door Lock comes with all fixings and a Bulldog Super Lock Bolt. The Bulldog GA90 budget garage door lock also suits garage and roller shutter doors.
Side doors, sheds and outbuildings
Do not forget the side door. A heavy-duty hasp and padlock is a simple upgrade for side doors, sheds and outbuildings. The Federal hasp and padlock set is Sold Secure Silver approved and carries a CEN 4 security grade.
Securing what is inside
Even with a locked door, it is worth securing high-value items inside the garage. A wall or floor anchor with a chain gives you a fixed point for motorbikes, bikes and lawn mowers. See our ground anchor guide for the options.
